This relationship allows for the foreigner to purchase land in the name of an Indonesian citizen, whose name will appear on the land title. A set of legal documents are drawn up to include a long-term, renewable lease of the land to the foreigner as well as power of attorney agreements, entitling the foreign investor to exercise control over the land in question. In some cases, a mortgage is set up between the nominee and investor to further protect the financial component of the investment. Nominees can be changed and the land and property can be sold on to a third party.
